Jonny Wilkinson at the Houses of Parliament for Mental Health Awareness Week

Jonny Wilkinson at the Houses of Parliament for Mental Health Awareness Week

May 15, 2024

Today we were blown away by the incredible guests and their inspirational stories at the Mental Health Awareness Week event at the Houses of Parliament. From Wan Abdullah - a mother, football player and Ambassador for Holbeck Moor FC in Leeds, who are using sport to support refugees and asylum seekers through to Chris Boardman – Olympian and Chair of Sport England, sharing how sport helped him as child to overcome bullying. It was a day to remember.

Through our partnership with the Mental Health Foundation we were honoured that our Founder Jonny Wilkinson could share his experiences with the group about his mental health journey in sport and how movement is essential in his life.

You can watch his answers to the panel questions below:

Q. Quite often with sports people, performance pressure can cause poor mental health. Can you share some of the realities of being in the rugby world cup and the impact that had on your mental health and teammates?"

Q. With your expertise and learning, what advice do you have for us all in this room about supporting good mental health by focussing more on the journey rather than the result?

This week marks the kick off for us on this new journey, one that we are so proud to be a part of.
